A c.1918 image of Marine Lonnie Bacon, uncle Nathaniel Bacon, niece Leta Idele Bacon, and an unidentified woman. Bacon was KIA in France in the Battle of Argonne Forest while serving with the Fifth Marines (ten days before the Armistice) on November 1, 1918. His remains were returned in 1921. Diuguid and the American Legion took charge of the service and he was buried at Presbyterian Cemetery. His name is inscribed on Monument Terrace. His grave remained unmarked until his great-nephew, Leland S. Bacon III (Donor) discovered the oversight and had a military plaque installed in October, 2015. (More details are in the accession folder).
