Cross Keys Tavern II (02720)
A September, 1962 black and white photograph of the building at the corner of Twelfth and Main Street, originally the Cross Keys Tavern owned by Maj. Oliver Towels, Jr., built about ca.1816. The city directory of 1892 lists 1200 Main as the residence of F. Burge, the city directory of 1894 lists 1200 Main as the J. J. Phelps & Company, the city directory of 1899 lists 1200 Main as the J. Hickson, Jr. & Company, flour and feed, at the time of this photograph it is the Sol Kulman Store and Russell's Cafe. These same directories list 1203 Main - which is the location of Russell's Cafe as the business of Turner & O'Brien. There was a Bob and Jean's Cafe there at one time as well as the Burris Department Store and Mid-State Sanitary Supply.
